Doggie Training Tips http://doggietrainingtips.com Sat, 04 Jul 2009 05:43:10 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.8.4 en hourly 1 Sit Stay Fetch Review http://doggietrainingtips.com/35/sit-stay-fetch-review/ http://doggietrainingtips.com/35/sit-stay-fetch-review/#comments Wed, 24 Jun 2009 23:21:00 +0000 yommys01 http://doggietrainingtips.com/?p=35 Do you need to train your dog Maybe he gets into things he isn’t supposed to, like the trash. Or perhaps your dog isn’t housebroken yet. Even if your dog is relatively well behaved and fairly well trained – there could still be room for improvement. In other words, if you are a dog owner, there is always something you’ll need to work on. That’s why the book sit stay fetch is worth a look.

Let’s face it. If you have a dog that means there’s ALWAYS something to work on. As a puppy they need to be house broken. As they get older, little things will begin to creep up. For example, your dog may suddenly develop a habit of barking at cars through the window. You know this needs to stop but maybe you aren’t sure exactly how. That is what sit stay fetch book is all about – it teaches you how to train your dog in the best possible way no matter what kind of training is needed.

What is Sit Stay Fetch

Okay. By now you are probably wondering what sit stay fetch is all about. Daniel Stevens, a noted dog trainer, has put together a winning manual that will grow with you as you progress in your relationship with your pet.

In other words, sit stay fetch is “the” go to guide to use when you need to train your dog to do something, no matter how simple or how advanced it is. The program will help you adapt to the needs of your pet in a clear and easy to read step-by-step format. Once you read it you will be able to apply the steps to help you with things like obedience training and house breaking your pet

So, What Will You Learn

You may think that training your dog is a common sense project. And in some ways, that may be the case. However, there are some things that can’t be learned unless you have a lot of experience. Daniel Stevens has that experience and he teaches it to us in sit stay fetch book.

In fact, this system is actually a step by step course that is broken up into three levels – beginner, intermediate, and advanced. So no matter which stage your dog is at, there will be step by step information to help you train your dog properly. Apparently, Stevens holds nothing back. This includes a detailed explanation on the dog’s innate pack mentality and how to use that to help you understand your pet. Once you understand this aspect of your dog, it will help you train them more effectively.

The first part of the course is geared specifically towards people who have just gotten their first dog or are trying to figure out how to choose one, as well as training techniques for what to do when you do get your dog at first. As the book progresses, so does the information. Topics such as housetraining, training the dog to use the crate, getting them to stop barking at people, and training them to listen to you are also talked about.

The sit stay fetch book does more than teach you how to deal with specific problems. It also gives you information on a variety of training techniques. For example, whispering isn’t just for horses. There is a dog whispering technique that is effective as well. Other techniques include praising your pet and using a clicker to help train them. Of course, that is only a small sampling of information.

What I like about the Course

It’s not that the comprehensive nature of the course was all that surprising given Stevens’ experience. However, it was very much welcome. In fact, I didn’t expect the sit stay fetch book to also cover other topics like choosing a dog, nutrition, and the pack mentality of canines. At first, this may seem like extraneous information.

But, it isn’t really because all of this information is designed to educate you about your pet. The more educated you are the stronger your bond will be which will lead to more effective training.

The book is also well laid out and written in simple language. It is set up so that the information will be relevant no matter what your needs are. It even has different sections depending on your dog’s age. It is a well thought out course that all dog owners will find helpful.

There are bonuses too which is also a plus. And if you think about the quality of the material plus the bonuses, the price is a real bargain. And if you think about it, you’re actually saving money. For example, obedience school can be expensive. Not only that, but some dogs actually destroy property. A good resource will help you train them faster, thus saving you the money and the hassle.

What People Are Saying About Sit Stay Fetch Book

“Hi, I bought the online book Secrets to Dog Training also known as sit stay fetch, because I have a big Guardian dog, and she was very aggressive to strangers in our house. I knew she could be trained because her mother was not aggressive. I got several good tips from the book as well as a personal email on how to correct her behaviour.

It worked and she is now much much better. I am very pleased and satisfied I bought the book. Thanks a bunch Daniel for doing what you do.”

– Doug Cummins (Nebraska, USA)

“My husband and I adopted Jack (a one year old male Pug/Chihuahua mix) three months ago from a shelter (we are his third home in a year) and to put it mildly he was 20 pounds of terror– dominate, nipping, chewing and also had separation anxiety issues. He quickly earned the name ‘Jack The Nipper’.

I read a couple of books about dogs behaving badly, but felt that I needed a step-by-step approach to correct Jack’s unpleasant behavior. I researched the internet and came across sit stay fetch, which I quickly downloaded, printed and read in one evening.

I immediately started with the Alpha Dog lessons and got across to Jack that I am the Alpha Mommy. I had no idea that doing something as simple as making him sit before I put his bowl of food down would make a difference in how Jack viewed me.

Jack has made great progress. He has become confident, less anxious and likes to practice commands every day. We still need to work on a few areas, but it’s only been less than three months! Jack is much happier knowing that we are the pack leaders who protect, feed and love him.

I recommend sit stay fetch to everyone who has a dog as a companion. I have learned so much about dog behaviors and how to respond accordingly without yelling or intimidating. Thanks Dan for writing such a great learning tool!”

– Susan Caruso (USA)

“Hi Daniel, Our Bichon, Jasmine, is a very friendly little dog who loves everyone she meets and shows it by jumping up on them. By following the instructions in your sit stay fetch, we were able to control her jumping.”

– Dr.Stanley Hyman (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada)

Will Sit Stay Fetch Really Work For Your Dog

The training secrets in Sit Stay Fetch have been proven time and time again to work. So what’s the catch? You have to follow the strategies taught in the book, many people fail because they never take action.

Many don’t have the will-power and desire to train their dogs. They think it takes forever and don’t actually realize that dogs learn VERY quickly when they learn to communicate with them properly… They get lazy and give up, rather than take on their dog’s obedience training and achieve immediate results with their training.

If you really truly want a healthy well trained dog who will LISTEN to you wherever you go… if you want to be respected by other dog owners as someone who takes great care of their dog… then there is no doubt in my mind that Sit Stay Fetch will work for you.

Closing Thoughts On The Sit Stay Fetch Book

Sit Stay Fetch is a great manual for all dog owners to have. Most manuals seem to only cover certain topics, or they fail to consider a dog’s age during the training. The fact that this one is as comprehensive as it is means that you will definitely find it as helpful as I have for training your dog.

You can’t rely on common sense to help you train a dog. You need a great manual written by an expert that will help you train your dog as efficiently as possible.

How To Teach A Puppy Not To Bite http://doggietrainingtips.com/28/how-to-teach-a-puppy-not-to-bite/ http://doggietrainingtips.com/28/how-to-teach-a-puppy-not-to-bite/#comments Sat, 09 May 2009 17:10:30 +0000 yommys01 http://doggietrainingtips.com/?p=28 How to teach a puppy not to bite is the first major behaviors training you need to teach your puppy. This behavior if not properly managed can become an act of aggression, it could possibly lead to a situation where he would seriously injure a kid, even if mistakenly.

Every one will have to be consistent in this training. If you have kids, it is important to teach them exactly what to do and how to do it. Biting is very natural with puppies. They play with their litter mates by biting, so they will do it with your kids if not properly addressed.

It will become very easy to stop your puppy from biting if you take time to learn how they behave with their brothers and sisters. They stop if one of their litter mates yelps, therefore all you need to do is yelp like a puppy would anytime he nibbles on your fingers or that of your kids. He will stop nibbling on your fingers and you can move your hand away. Don’t play with them when they bite. Use praise and treats when you and the puppy are playing and he doesn’t bite at all.

Keep your training sessions short and simply. He doesn’t have a long attention span. Ensure you keep the training positive and let the tone of your voice be like that of a happy trainer. Give lots of praise when necessary. Pet the puppy when it pays attention to a command.

When you are training your puppy how not to bite ensure you give the puppy toys to play with, bite or chew on. If he bites your fingers say ouch or yelp. Be consistent. If he stops, let him know you are happy with this.

Puppies need lots of attention and love. It is also important that you give them lots of play time and the right toys to play with. He will pick his favorite. When this happens, use his favorite when teaching it how not to bite.

However, do not give your old shoes or clothes for it to play with. He does not know what his old or new. He will think it is OKAY to bite or chew on your clothes or shoes. Puppies can easily be confused. He needs to know what and what are OKAY to bite or chew.

Make sure everyone around you is focused on the training. Do not allow the kids to let the puppy nip or bite them while playing, this will confuse the puppy. Teach them how to yelp. Make sure you reward the puppy for good behaviors and not for the bad ones.

Remember, it is natural for puppies to bite and nip at their “friends” so it will take some amounts of work and consistency to unlearn the behavior. No one wants a dog who is aggressive towards any one so it is worth taking the time to learn these tips on how to teach a puppy not to bite.

Tips For Training A Labrador Puppy http://doggietrainingtips.com/24/tips-for-training-a-labrador-puppy/ http://doggietrainingtips.com/24/tips-for-training-a-labrador-puppy/#comments Sat, 09 May 2009 17:03:08 +0000 yommys01 http://doggietrainingtips.com/?p=24 Training a Labrador puppy is something you as a dog owner will have to start thinking about as soon as you get your new puppy or even before you bring her home.

There are so many dog training techniques available depending on what you want your puppy to learn. Labradors are retrieving, they love fetching. Therefore after housing training, which is what most dog owners first focus on for obvious reasons, you can start your Labrador retriever on getting used to the idea of training with some go fetch play.

Labradors retrievers are very friendly dogs. They enjoy playing and swimming. You should have all this natural tendencies in mind when thinking about how to train your Labrador puppy. If you have kids, engage them in the training process. The pup will get to know how to play nice with the kids and the they will learn what behavior is acceptable from them and the Labrador.

It takes time and lots of patience to train a pupply, so do expect miracles while training your puppy. They will learn slower than kids. It is very important to be consistent with training plans. If you make the mistake of doing the opposite of your training plans, like giving treats when the pup does not deserve it, you will confuse her and everything will take twice as long. Therefore stick with your training plans no matter how long it takes.

However, Labradors are very smart and usually learn faster than other dog breeds so you should be able to teach it the basics in a short amount of time compared with other dog breeds. But make sure you remain positive and focused on your training techniques or methods. Puppies love playing so if you can find a playful way to teach your desired outcomes, or use play as treat, you will both enjoy it at the long run.

Knowing how to train a Labrador puppy is just as important as the training itself. There is no point yelling at the puppy or even hitting it. Spike collars and choke are not advisable. You should train the dog with rewards not with punishment. Labradors are stubborn breeds therefore you should prepare your mind to deal with that. Just be focus and don’t allow frustration to set in.

It is always easy to get frustrated and give up when training a puppy. But life will be much more simple and enjoyable for you and the puppy if you teach your dog certain things while she is still young and teachable. So if it seems difficult for you, instead of allowing frustration to get the best of you, find a good dog training school or a personal dog trainer, or pick up a full dog training program online.

Ensure you puppy is praised, appreciated and loved before, during and after training sessions. As with all other breeds, keep your training sessions simple and short. Reward the puppy when it does something right and always keep your frustration under control.

Remember that your puppy will be become a lifelong companion to you and your family. If you can maintain a positive attitude, you already have the most important part of training a Labrador retriever puppy.

How To Teach A Dog Not To Jump At People http://doggietrainingtips.com/10/how-to-teach-a-dog-not-to-jump-at-people/ http://doggietrainingtips.com/10/how-to-teach-a-dog-not-to-jump-at-people/#comments Thu, 07 May 2009 07:00:42 +0000 yommys01 http://doggietrainingtips.com/?p=10 Learning how to teach a dog not to jump up at people is a dog training process that includes you and other people around you. You are not only teaching your dog how to stop jumping on people but you are also teaching people how not to react to the dog. You are also training yourself how not to pull the dog down or yell at it.

The dog is simply showing submissive behavior when he jumps on people. He is being friendly and his showing loyalty, but most people don’t like dogs jumping on them. People believe it is simply a case of teaching the dog some manners. The poor little dog on the other hand will get confused if people are scared of it or even aggressive when he is trying to show he is only trying to be a good friend.

Children are often the hardest to keep the dog from jumping on. Dog’s don’t understand children can be shocked, hurt or scared while he is trying to be a friend and or a playmate.

The process to training a dog not to jump on people is very simple. The training has to start with yourself. Never allow him to jump on you. Say “Down” and then “Sit”. Make sure you don’t yell at it. Speak to it gently. Give him a treat when he obeys you but the treat should be when it is sitting down and not when he first gets down. If you give it a treat when he gets down, he may think he is being given a treat because of the jumping, so he will do it all over again. Remember, jumping on people to a dog is friendly, not aggressive at all. He expects you to be happy with him when he jumps on you and other people. Therefore the reward must be for sitting and not for jumping.

Teaching a dog how not to jump on people will take some time because the jumping behavior is natural to every dog. Dogs like to be friendly with people. It is a natural instinct with them. They love to play with people and love it when they are being appreciated for it. Therefore ensure you give the dog enough playing time but not when he jumps on you. Explain this to close relatives and frequent visitors that know the dog well and can see it when he is going to jump. If they don’t to respond to him when he tries to jump, he will get the message not to jump.

Some people many be able to do this because the jumping makes them nervous or they just want to play with the dog. These class of people will not make it easy for you to train your dog to become a better and well behaved dog and it is better if he is not allow to get near them while he is still undergoing training, because they will confuse him and slow down his training.

Do not confuse your dog and both you the owner and the dog that is undergoing training will be happy at the end. Just try to be vocal and make sure you reward it when it does not jump on you or visitors. As with all dog training, this can be a simple lesson or it can take some time. Being consistent in your training and having everyone to do the same thing, is the most important factor of how to teach a dog not to jump on people.

Leash Training Puppies – What You Need To Know http://doggietrainingtips.com/5/how-to-leash-train-a-puppy/ http://doggietrainingtips.com/5/how-to-leash-train-a-puppy/#comments Thu, 07 May 2009 06:43:59 +0000 yommys01 http://doggietrainingtips.com/?p=5 Leash training puppies is not as simple as many dog owners think but it is definitely something worth all the pain to enable you take the little dog out on a walk. Puppies like the company of their owners and you will definitely enjoy the company of your pup! The simple tips on how to leash train a puppy is very easy to follow and both you the owner and the puppy being trained will benefit from your effort.

Before you start the training, ensure you get the right size collar and leash. Ask the breeder vet or at your local pet store. Both the leash and the collar should fit your puppy’s size. If it is too big it will easily remove it and you may harm it if too small. It is important to ask to be sure.

The first and probably the most important step to leash training a puppy is to put the collar on the pup. The pup will initially do everything it can do to get rid of the collar. Make sure you don’t remove the collar anytime it is trying to get it off. This will make the pup understand that the it is something it has to get used to. This will take some time to happen. Make him wear it many hours a day, but keep a close look on it so he doesn’t hook it on something and harm himself while trying to get it off.

When he get accustomed to the collar, the next important thing to do is to attach a leash to the collar. Let the pup know you are not trying to harm it. Be gentle on it, talk to it while doing it.

The pup will most likely pull on the leash. You will have to resist pulling the puppy. You can do this in your home or back yard and leave the leash loose for a start. Let the pup get accustomed to the leash, pulling it around and playing with it.

When you get to the stage of walking out with the puppy with you holding one end of the leash, you need to maintain a balance. Never pull the pup around with the leash and don’t allow it to pull you either. Talk to the pup while you walk it out, let it understand what you are trying to do. He will get used to it with time. Just be patient.

This will be a continuous process. Every single walk will be a lesson in the process of your pup’s leash training. Never tug on the leash, and don’t let the puppy run off. Make use of body language and the of your voice.

The ideal walking situation is where the dog walks happily with it owner, and the leash hanging slightly loose between them. When the pup stops to check on something of interest to it, the owner stops too. When the owner wants to continue walking again, he calls the dog with his voice and not pulling the leash. When the dog wants to walk a little faster, he works faster too, but he doesn’t pull the leash either. Well …. I said that was the ideal situation! But you should have that some of the time, if not 100%.

It is important to consistently continue the training, never forget to reward the pup with necessary attention when he gets it right. When you have mastered how to leash train your puppy, it will always walk with you instead of trying to walk you.
